VELA Launcher

The VELA launcher is the only thing you need to download. It installs the Lineage II Essence client (protocol 542), puts the Vela files on top of it, fetches updates, starts the game with the right settings and runs voice chat. The game client itself and its protection are left untouched.

The launcher's interface is in Russian for now, so the Russian button labels are given in parentheses below.

Installation#

1. Download the installer from vela-multi.com.
2. SmartScreen. The launcher doesn't have a paid code signature yet, so Windows may show a blue "Windows protected your PC" window. Click More info, then Run anyway.
3. The installer asks where to put the launcher itself; the default is fine.
4. In the launcher, choose the game folder (default C:\Games\VELA) with the Change («Изменить») link next to the path. The launcher shows how much free space you have: you need about 45 GB.
5. Press Install («Установить»). The download shows its speed, time left and file count; you can Pause («Пауза») or Cancel («Отменить») and later Resume («Продолжить»), and whatever has been downloaded is kept. If the drive is short of space, the launcher says so before the download.

Main window#

Updates#

Every time it starts, the launcher compares your game folder with the file list on the server and downloads only what has changed. When it's done it says "All files are in place" («Все файлы на месте») or "Files updated: N" («Обновлено файлов: N»). To keep startup fast, files aren't re-hashed if their size and date haven't changed.

Vela updates are usually small: new names and descriptions for items and skills, window texts. The server tells the launcher what to download; you never need to copy anything in by hand.

Verify files#

The Verify files button («Проверить файлы») runs a full check: the launcher recalculates the checksum of every client file and re-downloads damaged or mismatched ones. It takes longer than a normal start, but fixes almost everything:

• the client won't start or crashes on login;
• Vela item names show up as blank lines or wrong names;
• your antivirus removed something from the game folder;
• you pointed the launcher to a folder with an old client.

Play#

Play («Играть») starts the client with the Vela server settings and minimizes the launcher. Don't close it if you use voice chat: voice works only while the launcher is open (even minimized).

You enter your login and password in the client itself. On your first login the account is created automatically: see First Steps.

Launcher self-update#

The launcher updates itself: the new version downloads in the background, then a line "A new launcher version is available" shows up with a Restart («Перезапустить») button. Press it and the launcher restarts as the new version. You don't need to download anything from the site again.

Voice#

The Voice tab («Голос») is proximity voice chat plus party and clan radio. You link it with a code from the game (.voice); after that the launcher connects on its own whenever your hero is in the world. All the settings: Proximity Voice.
